Previously, I listed the top 10 European tours for Trafalgar. In this post, I will cover 5 of the top 10 Globus European Tours. Although the Globus family also includes COSMOS, Avalon River Cruises and Monograms (now Globus Independence), this post will only focus on Globus Tours themselves. Also like the Trafalgar review, I represent Globus, but I am not compensated by Globus for this post.
The top ten tours for Globus is somewhat predictable, but also includes some surprises. The include Italy, Ireland, and the UK, but they also include Spain, Portugal, Greece, Austria and Switzerland.
So here are the sixth through tenth most popular Globus European tours:
Portugal in Depth
11 Days
18 Stops
7 Overnight Accommodations
Base $2,500 per person, land only.
This tour begins in Lisbon, and goes along the Atlantic Coast to the northern towns of Porto and Penafiel. From there, it goes south along the Spanish border before returning to Lisbon.
I have been to Portugal once, and it is a beautiful country. It is an area that doesn’t necessarily come to mind when thinking about a European vacation, but it is rich in historical and religious significance.
Highlights of Sicily and Southern Italy
14 Days
15 Stops
7 Overnight Accommodations
Base $3,400 per person, land only.
Like most Italian tours, this tour starts in Rome. Guests wishing to see the sites in Rome are advised to arrive a few days before the tour starts. From there, it goes to Pompeii, Capri and Sorrento, spending three nights in Sorrento. From there, it continues south to the Island of Sicily, crossing by ferry. The tour then spends three nights at Toarmina Riviera, looking out at Mount Etna. The tour then ends in Palermo.
Greek Island Hopper
10 Days
4 Stops
Base $2,800 per person, land only
This tour has a lot of benefits, with longer stays. It includes 3 nights on the island of Mykonos and 3 nights on Santorini. Your time in Athens includes visiting the Acropolis.
The Best of Austria and Switzerland
11 Days
14 Stops
7 Overnight Accommodations
Base $3,900 per person, land only.
This tour has a couple of real treats. First, after having time to visit Vienna, it includes a river cruise on the Danube. Then it continues on to Salzburg, Innsbruck and St. Moritz, before getting on the Glacier Express panoramic train in Chur. After spending 2 nights in Zermatt, it continues on to the Chillon Castle on the shores of Lake Geneva, and then continues to Berne, Interlaken and Zurich. I will be covering all of these sights in another post soon. This tour is a goldmine.
Hidden Treasure of Southern Italy
9 Days
11 Stops
5 Overnight Accommodations
Base $2,200 per person
For an Italian Tour, this one is different. First, it stays in the southern part of Italy, beginning and ending in Naples and Sorrento. Beginning in Naples, the tour makes its way across to the Adriatic Seacoast. From there, it continues down to the “heel” of the Italian boot.
To see a part of Italy that seems to get often overlooked, this is a good opportunity.
